Glass Etching

from Women.Design.Build

Description

In honor of the debut of the Women.Design.Brew recently released by Women.Design.Build and Hops & Grain, we're making drinking vessels! In this class, you will use a rotary attachment to etch a pint glass on the laser cutter at MAKEatx. You'll saunter away with your very own laser-cut souvenir!

Because the surface of glass is either etched or not etched, we will require that files are strictly black and white with no shades of grey or tonal variation. Think of a crisp black and white logo or clip art if you'd like to apply a graphic design to your glass, and look for images that are high resolution / do not appear pixelated. if you have a graphic design in mind, please email your file to MAKEatx at workshop@makeatx.com 2 days in advance of the class time so that we can give you feedback on file preparation. Etching text is also an option, and it's very easy to set up a file here on the fly.

Final design size must be 2.5" x 2.5" inches or less; original images can be easily scaled down.

We will provide the pint glasses, but if you have a particular design in mind, don't forget to bring your file on a portable storage device such as a thumb drive.

No previous design experience necessary! We will have plenty of designs to choose from if you don't provide your own.

I'm Whitney. I'm from Dallas and I work in Finance. Boring. I'm also on the Board of Women.Design.Build. Not boring! We're an organization in ATX that empowers women through design and construction activities in the community. Want to know how to use a nail gun, change a flat tire, make a cutting board, construct a planter box, design a cardboard light fixture, brew beer, build a deck, blow glass, fix a bike? Ask me because I know how to do all of these things and I learned through Women.Design.Build.
