Join us at TreeHouse in this class led by Mike Kaiser, our paints and coatings expert. This is an introductory class designed to equip those new to clay plaster with the information and skills to successfully install it in their home.
For those unfamiliar--American Clay is the original earth plaster, made in the U.S.A.! It is an alternative to other wall coverings because it is non toxic and less energy intensive. Made of natural clays, recycled and reclaimed aggregates, and vibrant natural pigments American Clay is applied much like conventional plaster.
American Clay is;
VOC-Free (Volatile Organic Compound)
Temperature and humidity buffering
Resists fading due to the natural mineral pigments
Covers a variety of substrates
This class will cover the basics of application of American Clay from mixing all the way up through application and compression of all three basic finishes. Everyone will get hands on application time with clay (if they so desire) and learn basic plastering techniques. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the class for job specific concerns. Please wear appropriate clothing that can get a little dirty and come to have fun! Finally we get to play in the mud again!
Participants will only need to bring themselves. All materials and tools will be provided. Material and tools will be available for purchase after the class, but if you have a favorite hawk and trowel bring it along.
Cost: $25 will cover materials, and refreshments. Participants receive a coupon for 10% off purchase of American Clay Products and other TreeHouse products
RSVP: 512.861.0712 and pay tuition over the phone or at the IDEA CENTER the day of or any time before. Space is limited to 10 students to ensure everyone gets hands on time and all questions answered.
